The effects of cycocel and ethephon on the yield and quality of sweet potato clones COCIP-1 and IGSP-9 were studied in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India, during 2003. The treatments consisted of cycocel (250, 500 or 750 ppm) applied at 30 + 45 days after planting (DAP), 30 + 45 + 60 DAP, or 30 + 45 + 60 + 75 DAP, and ethephon (100, 200 or 300 ppm) applied at 30 + 45 DAP, 30 + 45 + 60 DAP, or 30 + 45 + 60 + 75 DAP. In IGSP-9, tuber girth at 120 DAP was greatest with 250 ppm cycocel applied at 30 + 45 DAP (22.25 cm). The highest tuber yields were recorded for COCIP-1 treated with 200 ppm ethephon at 30 + 45 DAP (290 g per plant); COCIP-1 treated with 250 ppm cycocel at 30 + 45 DAP (247.6 g per plant); IGSP-9 treated with 100 ppm ethephon at 30 + 45 + 60 DAP (138.3 g per plant); and IGSP-9 treated with 250 ppm cycocel applied at 30 + 45 + 60 DAP (100.0 g per plant). Tuber length, and sugar and starch contents did not significantly vary among the treatments.
