A field experiment was conducted for two years with five levels of K (0,50,100,150 and 200 kg K_2O ha~(-1))and to level of FYM(0 and 5 t ha~(-1))in an Hapludalf to study the response of sweet potato to K and FYM application adn consequent canges in different forms of K in the soil.The tuber and vine yield of sweet potato incrased significantly up to 100 kg K_2O ha~(-1)adn thereafter remained almost constant.The N,P and K uptake increased significantly up to 100 kg K_2O ha~(-1),above which the crop showed luxury consumption of K.K and FYM interaction was significant for yield,K uptake by the crop and exchangeable K build up in the soil.100 kg K_2O along with 5 t FYM ha~(-1)has the optimum dose for production.Water soluble,exchangeable,available and non exchangeable Kincreased significantly with increasing doses of K,while latticeand total K remained almost unchanged.Application of FYM significantly increased yield,uptake of nutrients,water soluble K,excangeable K,available and non exchangeable K in soil.
