First of all, I would like to say that I think this is a great paper—the most balanced perspective on control charting that I have seen. Hopefully, everybody will feel that his or her viewpoint has been taken into account. I sincerely hope that it can be a much-needed "common ground" which we can all share. I would like to see future authors, whether they have an "academic" or "applied" viewpoint, start with this paper as a common reference point, and then branch out to make their own arguments. We should all thank Bill Woodall for writing it!
