No doubt about it, non-skid coatings save lives. They're used on floors of poultry processing plants, at swimming pools and waterparks and on parking ramps to provide a slip-resistant surface to pedestrians. Non-skid coatings are used on structural steel in new construction projects to prevent workers from life-threatening slips and falls. Formulated to withstand harsh chemicals such as gasoline and jet fuel, non-skid coatings are applied to flight decks of military naval vessels, barges and ferries to keep jets, helicopters, vehicles and equipment from sliding while at sea (Fig. 1).
