The seeds of mung bean (Vigna radiata L. Wilczek) cv. T-44 were soaked in water (control), aqueous solution of IAA or that of 4-C1-IAA (10~(-10),10~(-8) or 10~(-6) M) for 8 or 12 h. Treated seeds were sown in earthen pots, placed in a net house. The plants at 30 and 45 day sampling exhibited an elevated level of nitrate reductase (E.G. 1.6.6.1) and of carbonic anhydrase (E.C. 4.2.1.1), the content of chlorophyll and rate of photosynthesis. Of the two auxins used, 4-C1-IAA (10~(-8) M) proved more effective. However, ethylene production increased proportionately with the concentration of either of the auxins but 4-C1-IAA was more effective. Of the two soaking durations, 8 h proved better than 12 h.
