Independence picks Phoenix, Knight Hawk

Independence, Missouri, Power & Light has chosen Phoenix Coal Sales and Knight Hawk Coal to supply its Missouri City and Blue Valley power plants with 2008 coal needs under contracts that can be extended to meet as much as three years' worth of coal demand. Phoenix will supply coal to both Missouri City and Blue Valley, while Knight Hawk will supply Blue Valley only. The Phoenix-supplied tonnage for Missouri City - 30,000-60,000 short tons/year - will be trucked about 125 miles from the Garland mine in Kansas, arriving at a delivered price of 53 dollars/st (229 cents/MMBtu). It will contain 11,800 Btu/lb and -7.5 lbs SO2/MMBtu.
