Vietnam's coal exports may be cut by 8 million/mt in 2008, affecting the equivalent of a third of the country's coal destined for China, after loaders at the major Cam Pha port collapsed, Citigroup said in a August 8 report. According to data compiled by Platts, China receives nearly 90 percent of its anthracite coal from Vietnam. The US sent 17 metric tons of calcined petcoke at a price of 491.47 dollars/mt to Vietnam in April of this year. Bad weather struck the port, collapsing three out of four coal loaders that will require four months of repairs, Citi said. The fourth coal loader is still operational, it said.
