The page has turned-it is the beginning of another chapter of ASPAN's journey to advance the unique specialty of perianesthesia nursing. This past year we have traveled on a "Journey to ExceEence" and I thank Pam Windle for her leadership on that journey. As we have all heard many times, it is the journey that matters, not the destination. Our travels continue.Advocacy, whether at an individual or broader level, involves one person or a group speaking on behalf of another person or cause. As nurses, we have long accepted that part of our professional role includes that of patient advocate. We are informed, educated, and passionate aboutthe well-being of our patients. All of these factors drive us to be advocates. But we need to be mindful that advocacy is more than just an understanding and acknowledgment of the issue-to make a difference, you have to make your voice heard.
