Central Diabetes Insipidus in Association with Neonatal Brain Abscess

An ex 25 week premature male infant with isolated oesophageal atresia presented with increasing urine output and hypernatremia in the fifth week of life. This was on a background of a complex neonatal course including hyaline membrane disease, a haemodynamically significant patent ductus arteriosus with mild renal impairment and need for increasing inotropic support. A gastrostomy tube was surgically placed for feeding on the third day of life. During the initial weeks, Candida albicans was isolated from his urine on several occasions.
