Traumatic carotid artery dissection and bilateral vertebral artery occlusion after a horse attack: An unusual combination and etiology

Craniocervical vascular trauma can result from chiropractic manipulation, penetration injuries to the neck, sports, prolonged abnormal position of the neck, birth trauma, and closed head and neck traumas.1 However, such trauma from an animal attack and bite is extremely rare.In this report, the authors present an unusual case of a horse attack resulting in massive neck trauma, with a combination of traumatic carotid artery dissection and preserved bilateral vertebral artery occlusion; however, without obvious cervical spine trauma. This vascular trauma combination is described for the fist time in this report.
