The probability screening method (Mogensen's screening method) (PSM) and the thick-layer screening method (Burstein's screening method) have been utilized by industry in the past years. Although these two methods have some important advantages, they also have some shortcomings. In order to amend the shortcomings and retain the advantages of these two screening methods, we advanced a new screening method as the probability thick-layer screening method (PTSM) ten years ago. The PTSM is the synthesis of the probability screening method and thick-layer screening method. The first stage of the screening process is based on the screening principle of probability, while the second is on that of the thick-layer. This new screening method has great output and high efficiency. The characteristics and the principle of this new method are presented in this paper. In accordance with the new screening method we have designed several new probability thick-layer screens, which are being used in our industry. The operating effects of these screens are satisfactory.
