Political activism is sometimes necessary to effectively advocate for patients. Internationally the World Health Organization (WHO) has supported such efforts as the annual Global Day Against Pain, founded in 2004 by the EFTC (the European Federation of IASP [International Association for the Study of Pain]) chapters since the inception of that program in 2004. This year the Global Day Against Pain was October 17; we will report on that in the next Journal issue.
