The continent dominates demand in the packaging market (the most significant area for bioplastics), for instance, according to a 2010 report from Smithers Pira. The Future of Bioplastics for Packaging to 2020 notes that Europe recorded more than half of the global volume in the year of publication. And it is likely that Europe will continue to be a leading candidate for volume demand for bioplastics, though Smithers Pira predicts that North America and Asia will outstrip its growth rate to 2020.
