Since the very first beginning more than 20 years ago bioplastics have made substantial progress on all levels. After a period of basic material and product development manufacturers started to build up global production capacities mainly during the last five years and today many companies are announcing plans for expanding their capacities. Even traditional polymer commodities like PE are "going bio" today. The global chemical and plastics industry is recognising the sector as a highly promising growth segment.
