Integrated Management of White Mold (Sclerotinia sclerotiorum) in French Bean (Phaseolus vulgaris)

The white mold [Sclerotinia sclerotiorum (Lib.) de Bary] in French bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) was suppressed by integrated approach to disease control. Seed treatment with penconazole 10 EC or carbendazim 50 WP (@0.1%) was most effective in improving germination followed by ethanol-based garlic extract (50%) and Trichoderma harzianum isolate, L. These treatments reduced the seedling mortality and wilt incidence by 6.7 to 10% and 5 to 8.7%, respectively. Under field conditions, seed treatment with penconazole 10 EC was highly effective in improving germination (93.3%) and reducing seedling mortality (5.7%), followed by carbendazim 50 WP, ethanol-based garlic extract (50%) and T. harzianum. White mold incidence on plants, leaves and pods and diseaseseverity were less on plants compared to un-treated controls. Seed treatment with garlic extract (50%) was at par with T. harzianum and carbendazim in reducing disease incidence on pods. Similarly, foliar sprays with penconazole 10 EC was significantlysuperior to carbendazim 50 WP. The seed treatment followed by foliar sprays with penconazole 10 EC and carbendazim 50 WP were highly effective in combating white mold incidence and severity compared to seed or foliar treatments alone.
