Pre-harvest losses due to physical, entomological and pathological damage in mango cv. Alphonso at the time of harvest were estimated. The losses due to pathological, entomological and physical factors were 11.3, 7.4 and 7.5%, respectively. The total pre-harvest losses calculated at harvest in Alphonso fruits due to these three important factors were 26.2%. The post- harvest losses due to rot in ripening Alphonso mangos are mainly due to anthracnose (Colletotrichum gloeosporioides), stem end rot (Rhizocionia solani) and black rot (Aspergillus niger). The losses from these three rots at different ripening periods were also estimated. The fruit rots on 10, 20 and 25 day after harvests were 28.2, 62.9 and 99%, respectively.
