In this paper the activity of nickel catalysts supported on magnesia or lanthana for the methane wet catalytic partial oxidation (Wet-CPO) reforming is studied The results are discussed taking in account the methane catalytic partial oxidation (CPO) activity of the same catalysts and their characterization using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), thermal programmed reduction (TPR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and N2 adsorption-desorption measurements. The higher catalytic activity of the NiMg catalysts system is related to the strong interaction between the support and the NiO particles, this seems to be fundamental to prevent nickel sinterization.
