Reducing Greenhouse Energy Consumption and Improving the Environment

In the agriculture industry, there is a constant pressure to innovate and to find new ways of increasing profitability while keeping in mind ihe growing concern by the public surrounding environmental concerns. Growers Transplanting, Inc. (GTI), headquartered in Monterey, Calif, one of the largest processed tomato transplant/ seeding producers in the United States, is doing just that. The company recently installed energy saving measures throughout its greenhouse facilities estimated to reduce energy consumption by 305,256 therms or 1,788 tons of greenhouse gases per year — equal to removing 249 cars from the road or powering 616 homes for a year.
