As the global market become more competitive, California tomato growers are continually looking for ways to cut costs. There's not much growers can do about fixed costs such as fuel, labor, and planting inputs. But according to Jeff Mitchell, who's helping spearhead the conservation tillage movement in California, growers can ultimately save money and get comparable yields by using reduced tillage.
