A study on the formation of intermetallic compound coatings on Inconel through pack cementation method

摘要

Long term stability and oxidation resistance of supper alloys which are used in combustion chambers and gas turbines can be ameliorated by application of a protective coating. In his study, two intemietallic compounds were deposited on Inconel 738.Substrate, through the pack cementation method. Al-Ni and Al-Ti intemietallic compounds were formed in a in aluminum and in aluminum- titanium base-pack mixture respcctively. Results demonstrated that when the pack cementation of substrates is based on an ammonium chlorine-activated pack with aluminum powder the coating includes AlNi intermetallic compounds phase, but when the pack cementation is based on aluminum-titanium powders the coating includes TiAl, intermetallic compounds phase.
