Effect of an electric field during solution treatment of 2091 Al-Li alloy

摘要

Conrad and his co-workers have revealed that bulk phenomena in metals and alloys that involve diffusion or vacancy migration can be influenced by applying an electric field, including recovery and recrystallization of Al and Cu [1], hardenability of steels [2] and superplastic deformation of Al alloys [3-6]. We have also studied the effect of an electric field on the diffusion and the phase transformation of Al-Li alloys [7-9]. All experimental results indicate that the electric field treatment has an extensive effect on the atomic movement and the defect migration. We report here on the effect of an electric field on the solution treament of 2091 Al-Li alloy. The microstructure after ageing treatment (T6) is also investigated.
