Previous studies have indicated that an electric field has a significant effect on the heat treatments of Al-Li alloy, including homogenizing treatments [1,2] and solution treatments [3]. These results are shown to be due to the enhanced diffusion of second phase particles leading to supersaturation of the alloying elements. We report here the results of recrystalliza-tion of 2091 Al-Li alloy in the presence of an electric field to reveal the effect of electric field on the movement of defects.
