Australia has become the first country in the world to abolish a price on carbon, with the Senate passing the government's repeal bills 39 votes to 32. Prime Minister Tony Abbott, whose Liberal-National coalition beat Labor in an election last year, had made the repeal a central aim of his government during the run up to the election.
