摘要

The program(COMPIX), developed in this study was designed to automatically select the "optimal" competition index for individual trees in a forest stand. The program included a statistical analysis function that give statistical data for the samplingpoint. It contained also graphical functions, of which displays simple tree positions and images of competition status based on the competition index for each tree. To test the precision and reliability of COMPIX, data obtained by the forest survey wereused. Statistical performance of COMPIX was compared with that of SAS. COMPIX and SAS were equally good in terms of precision in data analysis. However, COMPIX was proved to be rather superior than SAS in data processing time. It was confirmed that COMPIX could be used to estimate optimal competition index in a forest stand. In addition, COMPIX could be used to help users make efficient decisions for appropriate silvicultural treatments and rational management plans.
