Global steel production for 66 countries that report results to the World Steel Organization totaled 92 million tonnes in March, down 23.5 percent year-on-year. World steel production in the first quarter of 2009 totaled 264 million tonnes, down 22.8 percent from 2008. The U.S. produced 4.1 million tonnes of crude steel in March 2009, down by 52.7 percent year-on-year.
