This study aimed to investigate the uptake and persistence of imidacloprid in cotton leaves and harvest time residues in cotton lint, seed oil and seed cake. Cotton crop was raised using good agronomic practices during kharif 2013 according to the recommended agronomic practices at Entomological Research Farm, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana. The study was carried out under field condition using imidacloprid as seed treatment at 3.5 and 14 g a.i./kg. Cotton leave samples were collected at different time intervals (15, 21, 30, 45, 60 and 90 days after application) and the cotton lint and seed were collected at harvest. The residue of imidacloprid was quantified by high-performance liquid chromatography. The limit of quantification for the analysis of imidacloprid worked out to be 0.01 mg/kg for all the substrates analysed. The residue of imidacloprid in cotton leaves was found to below the determination level of 0.01 mg/kg after 45 and 60 days of sowing (DAS) for single and four times of the single dosages, respectively. Cotton lint, seed oil and seed cake did not reveal the presence of imidacloprid residue its determination limit of 0.01 mg/kg.
