Neurological comorbidities amongst patients with viral hepatitis B: a nationwide population-based study.

A variety of extrahepatic syndromes with multiple system involvement, including prodromal arthritis-dermatitis syndrome, polyarteritis nodosa, glomcrulosus nephritis, and essential cryo-globulinemia, have been recognized in patients with HBV infection [1,2]. Derangement of immune-mediated responses, deposition of immune complex over tissue and cross reaction of virus-induced autoantibodies are believed to be mechanisms associated with extrahepatic presentation [2], However, data regarding extrahepatic HBV syndromes with neurological involvement is sparse. The present study aims to provide an epidemiological profile of the major spectrum of neurological comorbidities amongst patients with hepatitis B.
