Actinomycosis imitating parotid cancer with metastatic lymph nodes in FDG PET/CT.

We describe a 70-year-old man who presented with a right neck mass, with suspicion of primary head and neck cancer. The PET/CT results demonstrated intense FDG uptake over right lateral neck around the angle of mandible, corresponding to an infiltrative soft-tissue mass presented in the right parotid space on CT. Slight increased FDG update was also evident in a few adjacent lymph nodes. Primary parotid cancer with metastatic lymph nodes was suggested. Subsequent biopsy confirmed actinomycosis with no indication of malignant disease.
