The nickel salts water solution containing nano scale alumina (n-AliCb) particle was prepared, from which n-Al_2O_3 / Ni composite coatings were prepared on steel surface by brush electroplating. Particle size and electrochemical characteristics, such as zeta potential, of n-Al_2O_3 in Ihe solution were investigated. Interaction between n-Al_2O_3 particle and matrix nickel metal in the coating was studied. In the solution, over 85% of all particles had size less than 100 nm. Zeta potential ot n-Al_2O_3 particle was minus, which revealed that n-Al_2O_3 particle absorbed negative ions. In the composite coating, chemical bond of Ni-0 formed between O atoms from n-AJ2O3 particle and Ni atoms from the coating metal.
