Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) is one of the most important legume crops grown in India. Correlation and path analysis studies give an idea about the factors responsible for seed yield in chickpea. Accordingly, to estimate correlations, 25 early chickpea genotypes were grown in randomized block design in three replications having plot size of 1 x 1.2 sq. meter with a spacing of 40 x 10 cm during rabi 2003-04. Data were recorded on 5 randomly tagged plants per plot for primary branches per plant, secondary branches per plant, plant height (cm), pods per plant, seeds per pod, 100-seed weight (g), yield per plant (g), days to first flowering and days to maturity. Genotypic correlations were partitioned into direct and indirect effects by path analysis following standard method.
