Ninety four bean accessions comprising of land races, exotic collections and recommended cultivars were evaluated against three strain groups (I, IV, VI) of Bean Common Mosaic Virus (BCMV). Two exotic varieties Top Crop and Amanda were found highly resistant to all the three strain groups. Strain specific resistance was also observed in number of indigenous and exotic germplasm of kidney bean. Studies on inheritance of resistance in exotic cvs, Top Crop and Black Turtle Soup revealed that resistanceto strain group IV and VI was controlled by a single dominant gene, and that resistance could easily be transferred to indigenous susceptible cvs, "Jawala" and "Baspa". The Ft hybrids were resistant to strain groups IV and VI, and segregation of resistance in F_2 generation exhibited a good fit to single gene inheritance in both cultivars.
