Trifluoromethylnitromethane is readily synthesized in high yield from the electrophilic trifluoromethylation of NaNO_2.Straightforward and reliable synthetic methods for the incorporation of trifluoromethyl groups are highly desirable.Electrophilic trifluoromethylating reagents have been used to introduce the CF_3 moiety into a variety of nucleophilic substrates,including carbanions,activated aromatics,heteroaromatics,enol silyl ethers,enamines,phosphines,thiolate anions and iodide anions [1-3].
