The major capsid protein (MCP) gene nucleotide sequences of lymphocystis disease virus (LCDV) from 3 painted glass fish (Chanda baculis), 1 golden gourami (Trichogaster trichopterus) and 1 pearl gourami (Trichogaster leeri) from Korea Republic were analysed to determine their genetic relatedness with known LCDV isolates and other fish iridoviruses. Comparison of the MCP gene sequences showed a sequence identity of >=50.6% among the 5 isolates. Phylogenetic analysis confirmed that these isolates belonged to the genus Lymphocystisvirus. The MCP sequences among PGF05, PGF06A and PGF06B from the glass fish; GG06 from the golden gourami and between PG06 from the pearl gourami were identical at an 83.9% level. These isolates also showed low identities (<=88%) with deposited LCDV MCP sequences. Sequence data for PGF05 and PG06 have been deposited with the DDBJ Data Libraries under Accession Numbers AB299163 and AB299164, respectively.
