Nicholay Volodos and the origins of endovascular grafts

In a 2010 article published in the JEW, I described in some detail the unfolding of the Parodi abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) project leading up to the "first" endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) operation and its aftermath. There is no diminishing what the Parodi-Palmaz-Barone team achieved on that fateful Friday the 7th of September 1990 in Buenos Aires: their accomplishment was monumental. It led to profound transformations that have changed everything in vascular surgery and beyond.
