Detection of duplicates and redundancies. A major responsibility of peer-reviewers?

In a recent Editorial, Prof. Siest and Prof. Plebani highlighted that in order to achieve the leading (next) objectives of this journal: (i) guarantee an updated and evidence-based source of information and knowledge for practicing professionals, publishing recommendations, position papers, official documents; (ii) make Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine more visible in the Americas and in the Asian-Pacific regions; (iii) attract more original physiopathological studies; and (iv) publish reviews and mini-reviews, a new organization and teamwork have been decided by the Steering Committee (1). This is indeed the best way to success for this foremost journal in the field of Laboratory Medicine. There are, however, some other aspects that a scientific journal aiming to become leader in its field should pursue.
