In their letter, Drs. Benito-Llopis and Teus made some comments about our study of several surface ablation techniques. First, they disagreed with the use of the term epithelial laser in situ keratomileusis. We are well aware that the inventor of epi-LASIK, Pallika-ris, derived the acronym "epi" from the Greek word "epipolis." However, more and more surgeons use the term epithelial LASIK when communicating with peers and patients and also in the scientific literature.1 Benito-Llopis and Teus themselves coauthored a paper with this term in the title.
