Postoperative infectious endophthalmitis is a rare but devastating complication in cataract surgery. Perioperative antiseptic and antibiotic prophylaxis is paramount in minimizing this healthcare-associated infection after a surgical procedure so commonly performed. Despite guidelines published by the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS) in 2007, considerable variety in perioperative antibiotic preventive measures applied in different centers and different countries appears to exist. We assessed current Greek surgeons' preferences in this matter and discuss their approach.
