Corneal Surgical Problem

This 63-year-old woman was incidentally found to have bilateral, sharply outlined, midperipheral corneal opacities that are almost perfectly circular. Several cases of ring-shaped opacities in the midperipheral corneal stroma have been reported in the literature. This condition was first described by Asch-er et al. in 1964 as a bilateral, gray-white, sharply demarcated ring in the midperipheral cornea of a 39-year-old man with history of unilateral iritis. In that case, the condition was located in the superficial stroma and was 7.0 mm in diameter. In 1969, Bron et al. described a 59-year-old man and a 66-year-old woman with similar opacities in the midperiphery of the cornea that were wedge-shaped, dense, and based in the Descemet membrane.
