Cataract surgery after keratolimbal allograft surgery in patients with congenital aniridia.

Congenital aniridia represents a spectrum of diseases involving multiple ocular structures and occurs in 1 in 64 000 to 1 in 96 000 people. Affected individuals may have glaucoma, cataract, and aniridic kerat-opathy. A form called congenital aniridia variant also exists in which severe limbal stem cell deficiency coexists with mild macular hypoplasia and subtle iris abnormalities of stromal atrophy, ectropion uveae, and corectopia. Keratolimbal allograft is effective for the treatment of aniridic keratopathy due to limbal stem cell deficiency. Considerations for cataract surgery in patients with aniridia have been outlined. However, after keratolimbal allograft, the cataract surgeon must be mindful of additional complexities.
