摘要

The quality of teaching and the outcomes of teaching efforts in Germany have been of great concern recently (1- 4), quite similar to what has been described as the starting point for the "modular approach" in the U.S. (5). Empirical data show that students' interest in science decreases as they grow older, and that their attitudes towards science and technology are ambivalent at best (6-8). The results of international comparative studies such asTIMSS1 and PISA1 indicate deficiencies in the acquisition of knowledge and conceptual understanding of German students (9, 10). Obviously, this situation calls for a revision of science education. As science subjects are taught separately in secondary education in Germany, this project chose to focus on the chemistry domain.
