摘要

Research on problem solving consistently provides evidence for the importance of conceptual knowledge base in explaining problem-solving performance (1-7). With appropriate integration of related ideas and elimination of irrelevant information, experts possess a rich, organized, coherent, and globally consistent knowledge base, which enables them to deal effectively with both familiar and unfamiliar problems within their domain of expertise (8). Novices, on the other hand, possess a highly fragmented and incoherent knowledge base with several inconsistencies (9).
