Intraoperative coronary thrombosis with aprotinin in the prebypass period.

REOPERATIVE AND OTHER COMPLEX cardiac operations are typically accompanied by prophylactic antifi-brinolytic therapy to reduce excessive bleeding and transfusion requirements. However, recent studies have continued the concern that antifibrinolytic drugs may contribute to thrombotic complications. A case of acute coronary artery thrombosis immediately after aprotinin administration in an elderly male undergoing repeat coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery is presented.
