Grounding from the patient. In contributing to the Profiles and Legacies section of Cancer Biology & Therapy, I have to share with you some of the excitement that cancer biology has provided for me. I have had the good fortune of working with some of the finest minds and making real friends in the cancer biology community over the last 25 years. I became involved with cancer research because a number of friends and family members died of cancer. My first experience was at the age of 6. My laboratory's contribution to cancer research has focused primarily on new discoveries in the area of cell cycle/control and the interface of the cell cycle with hormone signaling. My hope is that this area of research has identified new targets for therapeutics and has real translational value for patients, in particular for those with breast and prostate cancer.
