A new species of Sargus Fabricius, 1798 from Europe (Diptera, Stratiomyidae)

A new species, Sargus harderseni sp. n., is described from Italy. It is compared with the closely related S. albibarbus Loew, 1855 and included in the S. cuprarius species group. The female holotype of S. ceriferus Jaennicke, 1866 is rexamined and definitively confirmed as a synonym of S. albibarbus. The detailed description of the new species is accompanied by the figures and photographs illustrating the diagnostic characters.
