Nanoparticles are between 1 and 100 nanometers and are designed to achieve.;particular physical-chemical properties for product application. Gold nanoparticles (Au.;NPs) have been used as drug delivery and as a targeting agent at the cellular, tissue, or.;organ level. Even in cases where nanoparticles do not show any toxicity, the question of.;long-term effects, bioaccumulation and the impact on food webs remains. Black Soldier.;Flies (Hermetia illucens) were investigated in this work as an in vivo method to observe.;the uptake and biodistribution of Au NPs in their digestive tract. These insects are.;inhabitants of nutrient rich ecosystems such as manure piles and compost heaps. The.;larvae have been shown to be an effective management tool in reducing up to 50% of.;the volume of cow manure. In this study, scanning electron microscopy is used to.;describe the growth and development of this insect, and to detail the external.;morphology of both larval and adult form. Transmission electron microscopy is used to.;detect the uptake and biodistribution of Au NPs in the digestive tract of the Black soldier.;larva.
