Gary Wagener, Packaging Manager, and Phil Thompson, his second- in-command at the bottling plant at the Blitz-Weinhard brewery in Portland, OR, love to tell the story of a tour group that went through their plant not long ago. A batch of regional distributors entered the four-story building where on a constantly moving assembly line beer pours into thousands of cans and bottles, which are then automatically boxed and rolled out the door onto waiting trucks. One of the distributor's wives was immediately impressed.
