Caryedon serratus, Bruchus bilineatophygus, Bruchidius andrewesi, and Bruchidius uberatus are the major field pests of leguminous tree species that provide timber, food and fodder or shade (Prosopis cineraria, P. juliflora, Tamarindus indica, Albizzia lebbek, Acacia Senegal, A. tortilis, A. nilotica) in the Thar desert of India. C. serratus primarily a pest of Tamarindus indica has been found to establish on P. cineraria, P. juliflora and A. lebbek. Bruchidae infestation on developing pods and seeds was highest in P. cineraria, followed by A. lebbek, A. Senegal, A. tortilis and P. juliflora resulting in a loss of 9 to 35.9% in seed biomass. Species specificity of bruchdae in different trees and their distribution in relation to environmental factors of arid region is reported. Callosobruchus maculatus, C. chinensis and C. analis are the major stored pests of Vigna aconitifolia, V. radiata, V. unguiculata, Cajanus cajan, Cicer arietinum, Lens culinaris, Dolicos lablab, Pisum sativum etc. resulting in 31 to 68 seed infestation with average loss of 18 to 58% in seed biomass. Conicobruchus sp. has been an established pest of seeds of Cymopsis sp. in arid region.
