An Improved Estimator of Population Total in Probability Proportional to Size Sampling for Multi-Character Surveys

In this paper a family of estimators for population total Y has been suggested. It has been shown that the estimator suggested by Hansen and Hurwitz (1943), Rao (1966a), Bansal and Singh (1985), Amahia et al. (1989), Mangat and Singh (1992-93), Sahoo et al. (1994) and Singh and Horn (1998) are particular members of the suggested family. Bias and variance expressions of the suggested family are obtained. Comparisons of the estimators have been made under super population models. An empirical study is carried out to demonstrate the merits of the constructed family of estimators.
