The minimal dietary requirements of mrigal fry for the essential amino acids arginine and histidine were determined by conducting growth studies. The experimental diets were formulated from purified ingredients to contain 40% crude protein. Casein and gelatin served as intact protein sources and were supplemented with crystalline L-amino acids to provide an amino acid pattern similar to mrigal muscle, except for test amino acids. On the basis of growth response, the optimum dietary concentration of arginine and histidine were found to be 2.22% and 1.05% of the dry diet, respectively. These values correspond to 5.55% arginine and 2.63% histidine when expressed as percentages of dietary protein.
