Recently, protein sources for fish feeds are moving towards higher plant protein inclusions, with a consequent change in amino acid composition that possibly affect metabolic pathways, growth and deposition in fish. Arginine is an essential amino acidin fish, and besides being used for protein synthesis it is essential in a range of metabolic pathways, including production of polyamines, urea, NO and creatine, and as such fish likely have arginine requirement beyond the maximum requirement for growth.
